How do I set up a Google Gmail in MaxxTraxx to add email and text capabilities or fix issues with an existing setup?
Answer:
In order to add a Gmail account to MaxxTraxx or to fix issues with an existing account that's already been placed in the setups menu, please follow the steps below.
STEP ONE: There are 2 key things that need to be verified first;
- Verify that your Gmail password is 100% known and accurate! Please log into your Gmail account here by manually inputting your gmail account username and password. Do not let your system auto-sign for you! This will verify password accuracy from the get-go and save everyone time and frustration.
- We need to know if your gmail account is a free, personal one OR if it is part of a paid domain organization using Google G-Suite. If the latter, you may not be able, most-likely, to perform a key function below. If it is a paid G-Suite account, your site Administrator must go into the Security section at the G-Suite Admin Console and turn on the ability for individual users to enable "Allow Less Secure Apps".
- To find that section, you now have to click on the "Show More" option on the left side.
STEP TWO: Make sure Gmail is set to send and receive emails via IMAP;
- While logged into your Gmail account online and centered on your Inbox, click on the gear icon in the upper right corner.
- Then click on the See All Settings button.
- In the next window that opens up, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- On that screen, down in the IMAP Access section, be sure that Enable IMAP is selected.
- Scroll down a little ways and click on the Save Changes button.
STEP THREE: Turn on "Allow Less Secure Apps" in Gmail security settings.
- Once the credentials are verified and while the account is open, please click on the round, colored circle in the top right corner that is usually the initial of the gmail user.
- In the sub-window that opens up, click on the Manage your Google Account button.
- At the next screen, click on the Security tab on the left hand side of the next window.
- Scroll down until you find the Less Secure App Access section.
- If currently in the Off position, slide switch to the On position.
STEP FOUR: Activate the UnlockCaptcha in Gmail
- With your Gmail account still open and signed in, open another tab inside your web browser.
- At the very TOP in the address bar, erase anything that's in there now and copy and paste the following: https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
- Hit enter. When the Allow access to your Google account page comes up, click on the blue Continue button.
- These steps dealing with your Gmail account online have now been completed and you can proceed to the next step.
STEP FIVE: Add your Gmail account to the MaxxTraxx e-mail setups section;
- From the main MaxxTraxx Service counter, click on the Setups menu at the very top.
- About half-way down the list, you'll find Email Setup. Click on that.
- From the email setups dialog box, input your gmail address in the top field called Email Address.
- Input your gmail password in the 2nd field called, obviously, Password.
- Then then copy and paste your gmail address from the top field into the 3rd field called Username.
- In the 4th box, called Outgoing SMTP Server, input: smtp.gmail.com
- In the 5th box, called Port, input: 465
- Below that check the box next to Use SSL Authentication.
- Before you finish be sure to click the Send Test Email button to verify that all is indeed working properly.
- MaxxTraxx will open a blank email and address from and to the same email address. Click Send in the upper left corner to test it out.
- Hopefully all is working perfectly now and you can click the Done button and you're finished. Congratulations!
