This is a Windows operating system issue, not a problem with MaxxTraxx itself. Fortunately, there are a few simple changes you can make to prevent this from happening:
Steps to Try:
Prevent the Network Adapter from Turning Off
Go to Device Manager.
Expand Network adapters and right-click your active adapter.
Select Properties > Power Management tab.
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
Click OK.
Adjust Sleep Settings
Open Control Panel > Power Options.
Select your active plan and click Change plan settings.
Set Put the computer to sleep to Never (especially for desktops or workstations).
Click Save changes.
Disable Fast Startup (Optional)
Still under Power Options, click Choose what the power buttons do.
Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
Save and restart.
In Windows 11, the interface is slightly more modern, and some paths may look different (especially in Settings vs. Control Panel), but the core steps are the same.
For example:
Windows 11 might guide you through Settings > System > Power & battery rather than Control Panel.
Fast Startup is still under Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do, the same as in Windows 10.
Click the Start button.
Type Control Panel in the search bar and open it.
In the upper right, set “View by:” to Large icons or Small icons.
Click Power Options.
Click “Change when the computer sleeps” next to your selected power plan.
Set:
“Turn off the display” to your preference (e.g., 1–2 hours).
“Put the computer to sleep” to Never.
Click “Change advanced power settings.”
In the new window:
Expand Hard disk > Turn off hard disk after:
Set the value to 0 minutes (which means never).
Expand Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep:
Set it to Off.
Expand Sleep > Sleep after:
Set it to Never.
✅ Click Apply, then OK to save your settings.
Go back to the Control Panel.
Click Device Manager.
Expand Network adapters.
Right-click your active network adapter and choose Properties.
Go to the Power Management tab.
Uncheck the box:
“Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
Click OK to apply the changes.
These settings help prevent unexpected disconnections from the network due to sleep or power-saving features in Windows 7.
These changes should help maintain a consistent connection to the MaxxTraxx server. If the issue persists after applying these settings, let us know and we can help troubleshoot further.
