Ohio's Sales Tax Holiday

Ohio's Sales Tax Holiday

Ohio has a "sales tax holiday" from Aug 1 through Aug 14 2025.    During that time, any part $500 or less, is NOT subject to sales tax.  The following is the link to the Ohio Department of Taxation that states the qualifications

How to Set Up a Sales Tax Code for Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday

Go to:  Setups → Sales Tax Rates

Click:  Add Tax Rate (bottom left corner)

Fill in the fields:

  • Tax Code:
    Enter something like OSTH
(You can choose any code, but make sure it's recognizable for the tax holiday)
  • State:
    Enter Ohio
  • Description:
    Example: Ohio ST Holiday

 Click Save.

Why Use a Separate Tax Code?

This holiday exemption is temporary (2 weeks) and applies to specific eligible items. If the same “Non-Taxed” or “Resale” code is used, Sales Tax Reports will combine those exempt sales with others, making it harder to isolate and explain these transactions in the event of:

·        Sales tax audits

·       State reporting questions

·      Internal financial reviews

Using a unique tax code like OSTH gives you a clear, traceable record of sales tied specifically to the tax holiday.

How to select to Tax Code on a Repair Order or Parts Counter Invoice

Within the Repair Order or Parts Counter Invoice go to the Miscellaneous Screen and click select by the Tax Code.  Select the OSTH Tax Code and Select.

Notes
For any questions regarding the eligibility of a part or transactions should be discussed with your accountant or Ohio Department of Taxation.
