How to install the MaxxTech Photo Application for Android Smartphones and Tablets
Answer:
The MaxxTraxx Tech App for Android Smartphones and Tablets is designed for technicians to be able to enter vehicle odometer readings and take photographs with their Android device that will attach to the Repair Order they choose. These photographs can then be printed on the Repair Order for the customer to see.
MaxxTech App - Installation Instructions for Shop Owner
- This application only works on Android Smartphones or Android Tablets. We do not currently have an Apple application.
- In most Android phones or tablets, go to Settings and then Security and check the box that says something like “Allow Unknown Applications”. Alternately, in our experience, on most Samsung devices as well as other devices, there is no setting for this in the Security section. If this is the case, Android will ask the question of whether you want to download or install an unknown application during this installation.
- Go to your fileserver and open MaxxTraxx. Then Click the "Help" menu item on the top and then click "About MaxxTraxx Pro". You will see your IP Address in the middle of the form that opens up. An example of what you might see would be "192.168.0.23" or something like that. Please copy that IP address onto a piece of paper to be used for the next step.
- You might also see a red warning stating "Warning: IP is dynamic and could change". If you see this message, you should remember to have someone who is familiar with Windows computers to make your IP address "static" so that it can't accidentally change in the future when you reboot your computer or lose power to your router. This could cause your MaxxTraxx Tech app to stop working if the Dynamic IP address is changed by your router. This doesn't have to be done right now but it should be addressed in the near future before it does eventually happen. (
- Now connect your Android device to your shop WiFi service with the proper password for access.
- Once connected, open your internet browser on your Android device and type in the IP address that you copied down and then put a colon at the end and type "8033". ( Example: 192.168.0.23:8033 ).
- A MaxxTraxx web page should come up. Click the "DOWNLOAD MAXXTRAXX TECH" button on that page.
- You may get a warning about downloading an unknown app. If so, always approve it.
- After it has downloaded, you either will have to click on it if it shows on the bottom of the page, or on some devices, it will take you to the installation page and automatically continue the installation of the MaxxTech App. (Samsung devices sometimes will prompt you to “Allow Unknown Apps” or "Allow Unknown Sources" On other devices, after the download, you will need to go to Settings and then Storage or Downloads and find the file that was downloaded and click on it to install it.
- Once installed on some devices the MaxxTraxx Tech app will open automatically. On others, you will need to go find it on either your newly installed apps page or on some other page of your device. Open the app and then it should ask you to type the in the IP address that you copied into an entry field. You only need to type the IP address this time, it will not need the addition of the ":8033" at the end like before, Example: 192.168.0.23 and then Click "OK".
- That should take you to a login screen. Type in the Employee Code of any employee and then click “Sign In” to continue.
- You should see all the currently scheduled appointments on the screen that displays.
- Click on any appointment to continue.
- After clicking on one, you should have the option of “Take Photo” or enter the “Odometer” readings. It should also show you the customer, vehicle, and Repair Order information.
- Choose "Take Photo" and it will take you to the camera screen on your device. Take a photo as you normally do on the device, then after taking the photo, it will show you the picture you’ve taken on the screen and gives you the option of "OK" or "Take Again". If you Click "OK" it will then prompt you to type a description of the photo. Either type a description or leave it blank and then Click "OK" to save the photo to the Repair Order.
- This last step varies on different versions of Android. In some cases it will just be an “X” or “checkmark” and on others it may say “Delete”, “Save” or “Take Again”. It seems to depend on the Android version.
- If you want to take more photos, just keep following step 14 for as many photos as you want to take.
- Once finished taking photos of that vehicle, press the "Left Arrow" button on the top left of the app and It should take you back to the appointment list to take photos of the next vehicle.
- Have Fun
